Heavy, belt-fed, water-cooled machine gun designed by the German Andreas Wilhelm Schwarzlose, who patented the system that remains a subject of study today. In 1902, he began producing prototypes in his Berlin factory. After two years, a definitive version of the weapon was adopted by the Austro-Hungarian Empire under the name of the 1907 model. After another 5 years, with further slight modifications, the weapon was named M1907/12 (model shown) and became the standard machine gun of the Austro-Hungarian armed forces.
